Here's how analysts are reacting to the new blue Congress

Democrats swept the U.S. midterm elections overnight, winning control of both chambers of Congress and dealing a sharp blow to President Donald Trump and his Republican Party heading into his final two years in office.

Markets have so far staged a classic relief bounce with the election uncertainty out of the way. Bitcoin is trading well above $78,000, up 1.4% since midnight UTC after dipping below $76,000 in Asian trading. Nasdaq futures are up nearly 1% after falling more than 2% earlier, while gold has gained nearly 3%. The Dollar Index is down 0.44%, touching its lowest level since Sept. 29.

Here are early analyst reactions on what a Democratic-controlled Congress could mean for markets and the rest of Trump’s presidency.

Digital asset venture capital firm Tagus Capital

“While macro equity markets remain attentive to hyperscaler tech capex and policy direction under unified Democratic control, crypto market valuations had already absorbed legislative gridlock following the freeze on the CLARITY Act. While altcoins and decentralised finance platforms stay vulnerable to regulatory execution risk under the new Congress, Bitcoin’s established commodity status and ETF rails provide a firmer floor, keeping its medium-term trajectory bound to ETF flow stabilisation, real yields, and broader Fed policy.”

Raj Kamal, founder and CEO of stablecoin payments firm TransFi

"A shift in control changes the terms of a 2027 deal. The CLARITY Act already needed Democratic votes and stalled 49 to 50 in the Senate in September. With Kalshi pricing a Democratic House at 93.6%, I'd expect tougher consumer safeguards and stablecoin yield limits in the next draft. The more meaningful date for payments is 18 January 2027, when the GENIUS Act takes effect alongside the OCC's final rule. From then, issuing a payment stablecoin in the US requires a federal or state licence, with reserve and redemption standards attached. That framework is already law, whatever the result.”

Tim Sun, Senior Researcher at Hashkey

“The Democratic Party‘s major victory in the U.S. midterm elections implies that the Trump administration may face greater political resistance in pushing forward crypto-friendly policies moving forward—particularly regarding crypto market structure legislation and related institutional frameworks, which could be impacted by changes in the Congressional political landscape.”

Matthew Ryan, head of market strategy at global financial services Ebury

“We see the result as mildly bearish for the greenback. A Democratic Congress is likely to rein in Trump’s fiscally expansionary agenda, easing deficit concerns and taking some of the heat out of the Treasury sell-off. Lower yields could narrow the rate advantage that has propped up the dollar, while calmer bond markets may sap the safe-haven flows that have supported it in recent months.”

As for price prospects, the focus now shifts to whether the overnight bitcoin rebound can last. Most experts say sustained gains will require consistent inflows into spot ETFs and a decisive break above $82,000. Until then, the recovery warrants caution. Stay alert!

Bitcoin, ether and Nasdaq futures have all chalked out V-shaped recovery rallies from the Asian session lows.

It appears as though the Democratic sweep of Congress was largely expected and priced in.
