Cryptopedia - Syndicate
Syndicate Network allows developers to create and manage smart rollups, which are application-specific blockchains featuring programmable, onchain smart sequencers. Scheduled for launch on September 17, 2025, the platform shifts sequencing logic from centralized, offchain providers to transparent smart contracts on the Syndicate Network. This transition enables applications to tailor their transaction ordering, fee models, and governance structures.
The SYND token has a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens and acts as the native gas token for both the Syndicate Network and Commons Chain (Syndicate’s L3 settling on Base), as well as the governance token for the entire ecosystem. Initially deployed on Ethereum Mainnet with bridging capabilities to Base, SYND launches with 92% of its supply minted at genesis, while the remaining 8% is distributed via programmatic emissions over four years. SYND is critical for network operations and governance. As a gas token, appchain operators use it to pay for sequencing transactions, deploying sequencer contracts, and writing blocks to the Syndicate Network. As a governance token, SYND holders guide the network’s trajectory through a Wyoming Decentralized Unincorporated Nonprofit Association (DUNA), which manages a treasury of 258.7 million tokens. Holders vote on treasury usage, network upgrades, and strategic partnerships, ensuring community control over the ecosystem’s development.
With emissions expected to begin on October 1, 2025, holders can stake SYND on Commons Chain to earn rewards from an 80 million token pool distributed across 48 thirty-day epochs in three categories: the Base Pool (30%) offers returns based on stake amount and duration; the Performance Pool (30%) rewards stakers according to the success of the appchains they support; and the Appchain Pool (40%) directly funds appchains based on generated fees and attracted stake. Users interact with SYND for staking and governance via standard web3 infrastructure. After bridging tokens from Ethereum or Base to Commons Chain, holders deposit SYND into the staking contract and assign their stake to appchains for 30-day epochs. Starting October 31, 2025, stakers are required to allocate 100% of their stake to specific appchains, aligning holder interests with ecosystem growth. Staking rewards depend on both the staked amount and the performance of backed appchains, allowing early supporters of successful projects to gain higher returns from the Performance Pool.
In addition to staking, token holders engage in governance decisions affecting the network’s future, including treasury allocations and protocol upgrades, maintaining community sovereignty over the infrastructure. The smart sequencer design allows appchains to evolve through smart contract updates rather than infrastructure changes, enabling modifications to transaction ordering and fee distribution via simple module updates. As the network matures, SYND’s function will expand to secure the Syndicate Network through proof-of-stake validation, with the economic model transitioning from emission-driven to fee-driven as usage increases. The governance framework ensures that key decisions, such as adjusting emission schedules or disbursing treasury funds for ecosystem development, remain under token holder control via the DUNA structure. This approach aligns incentives for all participants: developers capture value through customized appchains, token holders earn returns by supporting successful projects and governing the network, and the wider ecosystem benefits from purpose-built chains with programmable economics and atomic cross-chain composability.
