BSV distinguishes itself from other Bitcoin variants by claiming to follow the original protocol and fulfill the vision described in the Bitcoin whitepaper and other writings by Satoshi Nakamoto. The project aims to provide a scalable blockchain platform for electronic cash and distributed data applications suitable for consumers, enterprises, and governments.
Due to its unbounded block size, BSV scales according to market demand without needing second-layer solutions. In 2021, the network mined the world’s first gigabyte-level blocks (1000+ megabytes), reaching sizes of up to 2 GBs in August 2021. For context, 2 GBs is 2000 times larger than the 1MB block limit on the BTC network. The team expects block capacity to keep increasing to handle more transactions and data use cases.
Through tests of new node software, the BSV Infrastructure Team has allegedly shown that the network can process up to 1,000,000 transactions per second. They expect this capacity to be demonstrated on the mainnet and grow further. With this performance, BSV aims to surpass payment processors like VISA at a much lower cost.
The platform also targets developers by offering a scalable, product-ready environment. BSV claims it can scale with user adoption, ensuring that transaction fees stay low and processing remains fast.
