Polymath offers the technical infrastructure required to generate, distribute, and oversee security tokens on a blockchain. The project led the development of ERC 1400, a unified standard for security tokens on Ethereum, and more than 200 tokens have been launched via its Ethereum-based platform. Acknowledging that current blockchains could not satisfy the regulatory demands of capital markets, Polymath constructed Polymesh, an institutional-grade blockchain designed expressly for regulated assets. Polymath originated from an effort to tokenize a private fund. The founders discovered that significant technical and legal hurdles made launching securities on the blockchain extremely difficult. This realization shifted their focus from creating a single tokenized microfund to building a platform that simplifies security token issuance for everyone, which marked the birth of Polymath. Polymath tackles the major obstacles preventing institutional adoption of security tokens by introducing Polymesh. This is an institutional-grade blockchain designed specifically for security tokens, marking it as the first specialized chain of its kind. The network’s core design prioritizes four essential pillars required by issuers, investors, institutions, and regulators: identity, compliance, confidentiality, and governance. Together, these elements also facilitate more intricate processes like settlement.

Because Polymesh is purpose-built, it holds a clear advantage over general-purpose blockchains for creating and managing digital securities. POLY serves as the utility token for the Polymath Token Studio on Ethereum, enabling issuers to create and manage security tokens following the platform's launch. During the initial distribution, 240,000,000 tokens were allocated, and currently, nearly 100,000 wallets hold POLY. The maximum supply is capped at 1 billion.
