Secret Network operates as a layer-1 blockchain within the Cosmos ecosystem, utilizing Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) technology to encrypt all inputs, outputs, and state data by default. The team describes this hardware-based method as the most efficient and fastest option for confidential computing. Its programmable logic, known as Secret Contracts, functions similarly to smart contracts on other chains but keeps data private by default, enabling decentralized applications to process sensitive information.

The network has also introduced the Secret AI SDK, which combines TEE-enabled GPU hardware with its layer-1 blockchain to support privacy-focused decentralized AI. This infrastructure facilitates end-to-end encrypted large language models and AI agents, paving the way for private chatbots, DeFAI agents, and proprietary AI business structures.

Secret operates as a global, permissionless network that enables anyone to build upon its infrastructure. Nevertheless, the project originated in the USA, with US citizens leading much of the core protocol development supported by funding from American companies.

SCRT Labs, the core development team, was established by Guy Zyskind, a US citizen, former MIT researcher, and a highly cited author on blockchain privacy. Alex Zaidelson serves as the CEO of SCRT Labs and is located in Israel.

SCRT launched with a total supply of 170 million, allocated in this manner:

The protocol aims for a 9% inflation rate. Specifically, inflation is projected to remain at 9% if staking participation stays below 67% of the supply, while it plans to gradually decrease to 7% once more than 67% is staked.

The Secret Network relies on Tendermint, a delegated proof-of-stake consensus system. To keep the blockchain secure, verify transactions, and ensure the protocol functions correctly, validators lock up SCRT and accept SCRT stakes from delegators. If any node acts dishonestly, its staked funds may be slashed.
