0G is a Layer 1 blockchain and decentralized AI operating system that was launched in 2023 by a San Francisco-based team. The project aims to supply the core infrastructure for on-chain AI applications, tackling the cost and scalability issues associated with executing AI workloads on traditional blockchains.
The system utilizes a modular architecture that divides essential functions to handle data and transactions more effectively. Its components include:
- 0G Chain, an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain
- 0G Storage, a distributed network tailored for large datasets
- 0G Data Availability, a scalable layer designed for quick data access
- 0G Compute, a network dedicated to AI model inference and training
To boost performance, the design features a dual-lane system for publishing and storing data. It uses a Proof of Random Access (PoRA) mechanism to encourage storage node participation and relies on Ethereum's EigenLayer for shared security. While centered on AI, 0G’s flexible modular framework also supports various decentralized applications in sectors like art, gaming, and DeFi.
