peaq operates via three distinct layers that function independently yet collectively establish the economic basis for the Machine Economy.
The Machine Layer, known as peaqOS, serves as the universal gateway for machines to enter the blockchain as composable economic entities. It delivers chain-agnostic infrastructure across EVM, SVM, and Move environments, including verifiable identity, omnichain wallets, access control, service registration, tokenization, time synchronization, data verification, and payment systems.
The Trust Layer ensures machine reliability across all chains by handling shared registries, claims, and settlement logic. A decentralized network of Trust Validators, supported by staked capital, enforces economic accountability. These validators verify identities, assess transactions, calculate reputation scores, and issue cross-chain attestations.
The Service Layer links machines to external service markets using a permissionless adapter framework. It identifies providers, ranks them based on reputation and cost, creates execution plans, and settles results. Any provider can develop an adapter to become visible to every machine within the system.
