- What is the project about? Non-Playable Coin (NPC) serves as a meme coin and NFT-hybrid designed for all 8+ billion humans on Earth. The motto "I support the current coin" pays homage to a meme that first gained popularity in 2018.
- What makes your project unique? Drawing inspiration from the non-playable character meme, NPC embraces the joke by issuing an ERC20 token with a supply equal to the total human population recorded on July 26, 2023. Each token is convertible into an NFT at a 1:1 rate. Consequently, it functions as a token with JPEG metadata, tradable on decentralized exchanges like Uniswap (as an ERC20) and on NFT marketplaces (as an ERC1155).
This distinct design—an NFT tradable as an ERC20—is termed a meme fungible token (MFT). An MFT such as Non-Playable Coin (NPC) bridges two often-separated liquidity markets while enabling more people than ever to own a "part of the culture" as NFTs.
On the home page, users can toggle between the two formats via the dApp. They may choose to "respawn" as an NFT or "transform" into a meme coin. However, the most liquid form for trading remains the ERC20.
- History of your project. The initiative began by experimenting with NFT AMMs like Sudoswap and recognizing that ERC1155s were not being utilized to explore new avenues. The team also felt that the 10k+ pfp NFT collection had hit a wall due to limitations in exclusivity and gas cost. This project aims to demonstrate that scaling communities to millions using the ERC1155 standard is possible, and that unlocking liquidity for such tokens by making them fungible as an ERC20 is achievable.
- What’s next for your project? Users will soon have the ability to accessorize their NPCs using a built-in customization tool and export their creations for use as profile photos. Additionally, the team is constructing new supporting infrastructure to better link the liquidity of ERC20 tokens with ERC1155 tokens, featuring NPC as the main showcase.
